International Underground Scene is a peer-to-peer zine about the art and music scenes that grow outside the industry: the ciclos, fanzine tables, basement shows and one-person magazines that keep culture moving when there is no money in it.
What we do
- Country write-ups: each scene in its own right, with outbound links to bands, artists, fashion and swag makers, and underground sellers.
- Hot News from the Underground: the most interesting stories we find.
- Traveling Internationally?: hotspots to visit, country by country.
- Open submissions: free, no strings.
Creativity first
We cover sound, image, paper and rooms. We don't run political programs or agendas. When money or venues come up, it's only because they shape what artists can make and where people can gather.
Where we're from
We are rooted in Oregon, and we look worldwide. We come to every scene as fellow travellers from another DIY corner of the map, not as tastemakers.
How we research
- The big picture. What is popular, what is touring, what's happening to venues and audiences.
- The underground map. Which collectives, zines, ciclos, agendas and small outlets actually carry the scene.
- Their own words. We read those outlets directly and quote them verbatim, in the original language, with a short English sense beside it. Every quote names its source.
We don't invent quotes, and we don't print follower counts. If we couldn't read something, we say so.
